Discover Flint: Farmer's Market

'I'm bored, there is nothing to do around Flint!'  I hear it alot.  Sometimes, you just have to venture outside your comfort zone and discover new things!  This week we "discovered" the Flint Farmer's Market.

Built in 1940 by WPA workers, the Flint Farmers Market rose on the banks of the Flint River.  The same basic structure still exists today, with many improvements.  Our farmers market is the only of its kind anywhere in Michigan!

This unseasonably warm weather makes us all start thinking of summer. The Flint Farmers Market is a great place to visit to get into that summer mood.  The market is open year round on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays.  The indoor section of the market is open all year.  The outdoor canopy is open and filled with vendors as harvest season approaches (summer thru late fall).  This great open air market is the perfect place to get fresh fruits and veggies.  The indoor section not only has fresh produce, but also features a wine store, meat market, bakery, restaurant, a donut shop, cheese shop, and MUCH more!

The market is the perfect place to take the kids and encourage healthy eating.  Of course, it never hurts to make a stop for a fresh donut....they are made right there!  There is always something new going on at the market.  Check out their website for different events going on throughout the year.  The market is located on just off I-475 and Robert T Longway Blvd.
Flint Farmers Market has become a staple for my grocery list.  Plus, it is a fun place for my son to go and try new things.  Try something new, try the Flint Farmers Market!

If you ask my dad his favorite part of the market, with out a doubt, it is the Bar-B-Que stand he always visits in the summer for lunch.    What is your favorite part of the Flint Farmers Market?
